Local Area

Things to do around the area...

Natural Tunnel State Park. Natural Tunnel was naturally carved through a limestone ridge over  thousands of years and is more than 850 feet long and as tall as a  10-story building, William Jennings Bryan called it the "Eighth Wonder  of the World." Other scenic features include a wide chasm between steep  stone walls surrounded by several pinnacles, or "chimneys." You'll also  find the Wilderness Road historic area, a swimming pool with a 100-foot  slide and a chairlift to the tunnel floor. Guests enjoy cave tours and  canoe trips on the Clinch River.

    Local Waterfalls.

    • Little  Stony Falls — Northern Trailhead — This trailhead provides quick and  easy access to the majestic Little Stony Falls.  Highlights: 24 foot  high waterfall, scenic views of deep gorges, lush cove hardwood forest.
    • Devil’s  Fork Loop Trail and Falls including The Devils Bathtub — Devil’s Fork  Loop Trail is perfect for the true back country enthusiasts who are  willing to get their feet wet.
    • Fall  Creek Falls - The waterfall is right next to the highway but impossible  to see in the summertime without a short, steep hike to the base.
    • Upper  Little Stoney Falls (aka Upper Falls of the Little Stoney).- There are  two possible routes to this waterfall. Either way it's a must see in  your list of SW Virginia waterfalls.  The entire area is very scenic.
    • Laurel Falls in Hampton, TN - It has all of the right ingredients for a super family hike.  The  scenery is great with the trail mostly following the Laurel Fork.  The  hike itself is part of the Appalachian Trail and is more-or-less level  for the first 1.0 mile as it uses an old railroad bed.  The falls are  large and impressive with plenty of room to have a picnic lunch and let  the kids explore. Laurel Falls is a very popular hike so try to go as  early as possible to avoid the crowds.
